The Laurrapin is proud of its community involvement. From time to time, what we do makes the news. We don't do things for the coverage or for the acknowedgements. That doesn't mean that we don't like to brag on ourselves. This page highlights some of what we have done.
Chef Bruce Clarke Recognized
as "Unsung Hero"
Bruce Clarke, Executive Chef/Owner of the Laurrapin Grille was recognized as an Unsung Hero by the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Maryland on October 26, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
Bruce was nominated by Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation for his work with Harford Hospice over the last four years. His contributions include donations, fund raising activities and hundreds of hours of volunteer time.
Harford Hospice provides compassion and care to terminally ill patients and their families in Harford County.
Dam Jam Coverage
Nor'easter - October 16th (2009)
The First Annual Susquehanna Dam Jam, sponsored by Laurrapin Grille of Havre de Grace, was held on Sunday, August 16. The race was organized by Bruce Clarke, owner of the Laurrapin Grille and an avid kayaker. Clarke envisioned the event almost three years ago believing that a race down the Susquehanna River would help open up this wonderful geographic area to other kayakers from surrounding states. On a hot and sunny Sunday in August, his idea became a reality with over 50 boats making the maiden voyage.
The race was a 7. 2 mile community paddle that started at the Conowingo Dam and ended at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace.
The first kayaker in the water was Joseph Dougherty, son of current Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty. Clarke received plenty of help in the organizing of the kayaks for launching by Bob Chance, long-time local environmentalist and fellow kayaker from Darlington, MD. The race was divided into two groups - beginner and advanced - with the beginners given a handicap.
